    Abstract

The use of simulation models provides some of the answers to the questions of how existing systems function and how a catchment, sewer system or treatment plant may be modified to mitigate existing problems and prevent similar or new problems from occurring in a receiving water. Water quality standards can be applied within impact models to assess the performance of drainage systems against river quality objectives. The integration of deterministic and stochastic elements within model applications may improve modelling in the future.
