Abstract
Though the concept of national cinema has been adapted to explore the hybridity and fluidity of categories of identity based on class, race, ethnicity, gender, and sexuality in the United Kingdom, little attention has been paid to the ‘dynamics of space.’ As British cinema studies have reified concepts of social space, the emergence of the regional in contemporary British cinema has been under-theorised, marginalised, and regarded as nothing more than a ‘backdrop.’
