The authors argue that HLA apprenticeship require an innovative style of HE pedagogy which reflects the sector specific nature of their learning needs and actively engages both apprentices and their employers in developing and delivering the curriculum. An apprentice is currently employed in the field and is also a learner attending university and experiencing student life. Higher Level Apprenticeships in Health and Social Care closely align Higher Education academic learning and theory with professional practice; primarily led by employers. A forum model of consultation is used, shared expertise is recognised and end point assessments reflect real learning outcomes.
