    Abstract

In world-standard squash, the ability to perform rapid acceleration and deceleration over short distances is essential to success. The explosive lunge requires a complex combination of both locomotion and stability in response to movement direction and distance from the ball, at the time of shot selection. This article demonstrates the method of functional exercise progression used at the English Institute of Sport to optimize explosive lunge movement to support world-class performance at the 2013 squash world team championships.
