Disney+: it all adds up

Research output: Contribution to specialist publicationBlog post

    Abstract

This short article addresses the question ‘How is Disney+ a culmination of developments during the Bob Iger franchise Disney period?’ Providing a commentary on the ‘Disney+ UK Pre-Order Trailer’, I summarise my current research on Disney and streaming which in turn builds on my chapter 'Disneyizing Home Entertainment Distribution’ in Wroot, Jonathan & Andy Willis (2017) (eds.) DVD, Blu-ray and Beyond: Navigating Formats and Platforms within Media Consumption, Cham, Switzerland: Palgrave Macmillan. I develop the significance of Disney+, including the major change to the conglomerate’s business model, with its new focus on the direct-to-consumer global market, but also continuities with the economic history of the company and its divisions, especially around its exploitation of Home Entertainment.
