Bio-Cultural Perspectives on Play: The science of evolution, the magic of narrative

    Research output: Contribution to conferencePaper

    Abstract

We are currently at an exciting time in the study of child development, in which the biological and the cultural are beginning to come together, to give us an intriguing picture of the developing human being. In summary, this relates to a growing knowledge of the impact of early environments upon neuronal development, and most importantly, research in the fields of anthropology, neuroscience, psychology and education tells us that play-based learning is not only the most natural way to develop the core skills upon which later academic achievements are based, but also the most efficient and effective.
