This project comprises a series of journal articles on the theme of measurement, surveying, and surveillance in the contemporary university. It draws on the work of the 19th century philosopher and essayist, Henry David Thoreau, who was the town surveyor in Concord, Massachusetts. The projects is supported by a British Association of American Studies Founders’ Travel Grant which will facilitate a visit the Thoreau archives in the Concord Free Library.
