Syra is an Associate Principle Lecturer in Childhood and Education. Having undertaken Bachelor of Arts degree in Arabic Studies, Syra has also completed a Masters in Social Work and a Certificate in Counselling Skills.


Before joining Leeds Trinity University Syra worked in a variety of settings where she carried out an array of responsibilities. She has worked as a Case manager for Browning house residential, family assessment unit, a Social worker for child protection and a youth worker with the responsibilities for youth education and support.  Syra joined Leeds Trinity University in 2008 where she was an Independent Review Officer to Looked after Children.


Teaching and Administration


Syra teaches a wide variety of modules throughout various courses at Leeds Trinity University. These are:


  • Working with Children, Young People and Families

  • Child and Family Welfare Studies

  • Foundation Degree in Supporting Children and Families


Syra is currently developing two courses for Leeds Trinity University and/or external partner organisations. These courses are:


  • MA Social Work

  • Higher Level Apprenticeships in Adult Social Care and Children, Young People and Families

Syra has specific interests and expertise in the following areas:

  • Safeguarding

  • Services to Children, Young People and Families


She also has a wide variety of research areas. These are:


  • Diversity and Equality

  • Perpetrators of Child Sexual Exploitation

  • Looked after Children
