Megan Stephenson is an Associate Professor at Leeds Trinity University and is currently undertaking an Ed.D. She is also the Chair of the Primary Universities' Council for the Education of Teachers Forum. As a senior member of the School of Education’s strategic leadership team, she plays a pivotal role in shaping teacher education and policy.

Megan has extensive experience in Initial Teacher Training (ITT), having previously led Primary PGCE programmes, Academic Partnerships, and the Early Reading and Phonics curriculum. Her professional expertise is underpinned by a strong commitment to creative, inclusive, and systematic approaches to reading instruction. She has a growing publishing profile, contributing to works that explore the value of these approaches, and served as lead editor for the core text Training to be a Primary School Teacher: ITT and Beyond.

Before moving into higher education, Megan taught in six primary schools across the North of England, where she led on Phonics and Early Reading and trained as a Reading Recovery teacher and trainer. She has presented at national conferences on her concept of ‘Inspirational Teacher Education’ and is currently researching teacher education policy and social justice.
