Biography

Megan Stephenson is an Associate Professor at Leeds Trinity University. She is a senior member of the strategic leadership team within the Institue of Education. She has previously led the Primary PGCE programmes, Academic Parnterhsips and the Early Reading and Phonics Curriculum. Megan has contributed to several published works focusing on the value of creative, inclusive and systematic reading instruction. She co-edited the core text, ‘Developing a Love of Reading and Books: Teaching and Nurturing Readers in the Primary School. She co-authored the fourth edition of Teaching Systematic Synthetic Phonics in the Primary School. Prior to working in HEI Megan taught in six primary schools across the North of England where she led on Phonics and Early Reading and trained as a Reading Recovery teacher and trainer. She has presented at National Conferences in the UK on her approach to developing ‘Inspirational Teacher Education,’ and is currently undertaking research in developing effective primary curricular in the post Covid digital age.
