Marie was, for fifteen years, the manager of an Early Years setting which incorporated aspects of the Steiner Waldorf approach, later becoming a freelance lecturer and consultant specialising in parenting, behaviour management, social and emotional development. During this time she took up appointments as adviser and CPD trainer to Leeds Education Authority and Leeds Hospitals, delivering training to paediatric medics, play therapists, teachers and nursery workers.
Marie was part of the team asked to develop a range of courses to support communities across West Yorkshire, later working with the University of Leeds Continuing Education Department and Leeds Social Services delivering these programmes across Leeds. The work involved supporting families with troubled children who were excluded from nursery and school; in addition, and what was innovative at the time, work with male offenders separated from their children whilst awaiting trial.
Before joining Leeds Trinity, Marie worked as Senior lecturer and Programme Leader in FE at Park Lane College and HE at Bradford University Centre (McMillan) delivering a range of programmes in Early Childhood Studies; Post-compulsory Education Teacher Training; Education Studies and QTS. Whilst at Park Lane Marie was involved in overseas training and placements working across France and Majorca, Spain. Whilst at McMillan, she was also involved in the development and oversight of the University Centre’s Research Ethics Committee.
