Malcolm is an Associate Principal Lecturer in Education. Having taken a first degree in French and Russian at Oxford University, he also has a Master of Arts in Modern Languages and a PGCE in Primary Education.


Before joining Leeds Trinity University in 2008, Malcolm worked in a variety of schools carrying out a wide range of roles and responsibilities. After teaching in primary and middle schools in Buckinghamshire and the West Midlands and working as an advisory teacher for IT, he became deputy headteacher of a primary school in Dudley.  This was followed by ten years as headteacher of Holy Trinity Junior School in Ripon.


Teaching and Administration


Malcolm has overall responsibility for the university’s Higher Level Teaching Assistant programme and is a senior assessor and programme manager with HLTA North of England. He also teaches the HLTA module on the Foundation Degree.

Research interests

Malcolm has specific expertise and interest in the development of school support staff and in ICT. He can be consulted by external organisations regarding the HLTA programme and has presented at HLTA regional conferences.
