Liz is an Associate Principal Lecturer in Secondary Education. Having completed a Bachelor of Arts degree, she has also completed a Master in Education, an Advanced Diploma in Education Management and has gained a Certificate in Education.

Before Liz joined Leeds Trinity University she worked in a variety of educational settings and had a wide range of responsibilities.  She has worked as:

  1. A subject teacher

  2. A Second in Department

  3. Head of Faculty

  4. Head of Department

  5. 3 Deputy Headship Posts

  6. Headteacher

  7. Consultant in Education – Department for Education and Diocesan Inspection work which is still active

She was a visiting lecturer at Leeds Trinity University from 2005 but joined the university permanently in 2007 where she has held a number of positions within the university.  These positions were:

  • Visiting Lecturer Primary Catholic Education

  • Permanent 0.5 PTE PGCE R.E. tutor including Secondary Catholic Education and Visiting Lecturer for Primary Catholic Education

  • Permanent 0.8 PTE PGCE R.E. Secondary Catholic Education and Catholic Partnerships and Visiting Lecturer for Primary Catholic Education

  • Permanent FTE  Programme Leader School Direct Hull, Primary and Secondary Catholic Education and Catholic Partnerships

Teaching and Administration


Liz teaches a variety of modules across both the University’s Primary Education and PGCE courses. She teaches:


  • PGCE School Direct St Marys Hull Programme Leader

  • Catholic Certificate in Religious Studies (CCRS) Secondary Catholic Education Programme Leader

  • Primary Education Undergraduate Level 5 Catholic Education Module/ CCRS Primary Education Programme Leader


Liz is also currently developing a number of for Leeds Trinity University or Partner organisations.  These are:


  • Trust Director on the Diocese of Leeds Bishop Wheeler Catholic Academy Trust Board
  • Trust Director on the Archbishop Sentamu Academy Trust Board (SALT) in Hull
  • Promoting Excellence (PEX) Accredited Postgraduate Certificate in Leadership Masters to larger partnerships

  • Northern Dioceses Leadership Committee for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and Teaching Personal Education CPD pathway towards a Masters

  • Partnership work for international education placements with Universidad Catolica de Murcia

  • Teaching School and MATs Alliance work with NCTL
  • Teaching School development with Ampleforth College and the Diocese of Middlebrough




Research interests

Liz has specific interests and areas of expertise in Leadership, Education and Initial Teacher Training (ITT). Her research areas are:

  • Education in Catholic Schools

  • Education in Secondary Schools

  • Leadership in Catholic Schools

  • Impact of School Direct Training on Initial Teacher Training.

She delivers S48 Ofsted Training and is currently a S48 Ofsted Inspector for Standards in Schools
