Personal profile
Biography
I am a Senior Lecturer in Mental Health Nursing at Leeds Trinity University. Prior to this, I worked at the University of Bradford as a Lecturer in Mental Health Nursing.
I have extensive experience within the NHS, having served in diverse clinical capacities such as Psychiatric Intensive Care (PICU), female acute services, Assertive Outreach (AOT), and adult ADHD services. Additionally, I am a qualified V300 Non-Medical Prescriber (NMP), and I have specific interest in the deprescribing of medicines.
In the realm of psychiatry, my specialised focus of interest is the provision of care for individuals diagnosed with Severe Mental Illness (SMI) and enhancing overall physical wellbeing, recognising the concerning premature mortality rates within this demographic of people. Additionally, I am interested in neurodivergence, striving to enhance the capacity of the nursing workforce to care for and meet the needs of neurodivergent individuals. I also have a real passion and interest for biomedical ethics, particularly in navigating complex cases within the legal framework, specifically pertaining to issues of capacity and treatment.
Within nurse education, my continuous aim is to cultivate a high quality learning environment that fosters a sense of belonging and psychological safety. I am exploring and providing leadership in integrating a trauma-informed approach into the nursing curriculum, seeking to further enhance the educational experience. I am also committed to forging connections with local trusts and the West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board (ICB), aiming to exchange best practices and resources for the advancement of this work.
I am currently finalising a piece of research undertaken with Doctor Gabrielle Humphreys (University of Bradford) centred on the implementation of a tailored approach to formative feedback amongst undergraduate nursing students, a method which has demonstrated a notable boost in both confidence levels and assessment literacy within the cohort.
