Jon Radcliffe has an academic background in Sports Science, Sport Psychology, and Strength and Conditioning. Having received a First Class BSc in Applied Sport Science from the University of Salford Jon has progressed to conduct research examining the use of psychology within strength and conditioning, graduating as a Doctor of Philosophy in 2014.
Jon is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and was awarded the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice from the University of Salford in 2013. Jon has previously had responsibilities as a reviewer for the University of Salford Research Ethics Committee for Health Sciences as well as holding a position on the University of Salford’s Research Committee. Jon currently holds a position on the School of Health and Social Sciences research ethics committee.
In the applied field, Jon is a Chartered Scientist BASES Accredited Sport and Exercise Scientist specialising in providing psychology support. Practical experience consists of providing professional support as the Academy Head of Psychology for a professional football club and has previously worked at England Lacrosse as well as working with numerous individual athletes.

Research interests
Jon has a research interest in sport psychology in particular the inclusion of sports psychology practices within sports coaching. A large proportion of Jon’s work is centred on the application of psychological skills and strategies used within strength and conditioning training.
Collaborations
Jon has worked closely with Dr Paul Comfort and Dr Tom Fawcett at The University of Salford examining the psychological skills use by strength and conditioning coaches and the influencing factors governing the use of such skills. More recently Jon has worked with Prof. Mark Russell and colleagues at Leeds Trinity University examining half time strategies and the impact on association football match play performance indicators. Jon Is currently supervising two PhD students, along with Dr Chris Rowley, exploring the interpersonal complexities of applied sport psychology practice. Jon was submitted as part of the successful REF2021 submission.
