Personal profile

Biography

I am an experienced journalist with around 25 years of working across BBC radio and print, now leading the MA Journalism programme at Leeds Trinity University – one of only a handful in the UK to have dual accreditation with both the NCTJ and the BJTC. I have taught on and led journalism programmes at York St John and at Leeds Beckett. At YSJ, I developed a brand new suite of 4 programmes, including Journalism, taking these from planning to full validation in nine months.

I have co-authored nationally recognized research into online abuse of journalists to produce a free resource for how journalism students can prepare and protect themselves; this was picked up and highlighted by the Press Gazette and Hold the Front Page. I have been named by Reach plc in their XX Directory as one of the women leading the fight against online abuse against journalists.

I have been nominated by my students as one of 13 outstanding and inspirational women involved in delivering NCTJ journalism training across the UK (March 2020).
