I am the Founding Dean of The Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching at Leeds Trinity University. In a career spanning nearly 30 years, I have worked as an educationalist and academic in a range of educational contexts, including the compulsory sector, national policy level and higher education.
I was awarded a National Teaching Fellowship in 2019 based on my approach which uses the power of story for transformative educational experiences and in 2018 I was awarded a Women in Leadership Award by Forward Ladies which was wonderful surprise, an honour and is much valued.
As a Professor of Education and Pedagogy at Leeds Trinity University, I work with students and colleagues on the enhancement of learning and teaching with a view to raising the profile of teaching excellence. I have worked at national level examining approaches to curriculum design, and I am committed to identifying and addressing pre-existing systemic, structural and cultural issues which can impact on student success. This includes embedding wellbeing in curriculum design and to engage in relational pedagogy to gain a better understanding and insight of the experience of students adopting co-created, non-deficit, equitable approaches to education leading to enhanced innovation in pedagogic practice for improved student outcomes.
I am a Visiting Research Associate at KU Leuven and a reviewer for Teaching & Learning Inquiry the open access journal of the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (ISSOTL). Additionally, I am a founding member of the International Perspectives in Education (IPiE) consortium, we host an international and interdisciplinary conference with an associated peer reviewed publication.
