Biography

 

Cathryn is an Associate Principle Lecturer in the Institute for Childhood and Education. Cathryn completed her degree in Educational Studies with Geography before going on to complete a PGCE in Primary Teaching then a Master of Arts in Education in 2010. Cathryn is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

 

Before joining Leeds Trinity in 2008, Cathryn worked as a lecturer on Initial Teacher Training, Foundation Degrees, Top Up Courses and Education Studies (Early Years) programmes at Bradford College. She has also previously worked as a primary school teacher, with 20 years’ experience. During this time Cathryn was a Foundation Stage/Key Stage 1 class teacher as well as being the Geography and History subject lead and library co-ordinator. When Cathryn joined Leeds Trinity University she was originally a lecturer for the Early Years modules within the Foundation Degree.

 

Teaching and Administration

 

Cathryn is the programme leader for Professional Practice. Within this programme she teaches the following modules:

 

  • Preparing to Teach

  • Leadership in Multi-agency Environment

 

Cathryn also teaches the following modules on the BA (Hons) Early Childhood Studies course:

 

  • Play and the Early Years Environment

  • Pedagogy, Practice, Assessments and Frameworks

 

Research interests

Cathryn has a specific interest and expertise in learning through play, Early Years teaching: Nursery and Reception.
