Biography

Catherine is the Secondary PGCE Programme Co-ordinator, as well as the module leader for Mathematics within the Instiute of Childhood and Education. Having undertaken a degree in Maths, she has also completed a PGCE in Secondary and Higher Education and has a Masters of Arts in Education.

Before joining Leeds Trinity University, Catherine had a variety of jobs within Industry and since 2002, within Education.  She has been a Maths Faculty leader in a Secondary School. Here she had the responsibility of curriculum development for all three key stages and resource management. She has also been a Maths secondary teacher and a Further education lecturer in Maths and key skills. 

Catherine joined Leeds Trinity University in 2010 where she held a number of roles before her current position. She has been a PGCE Secondary Mathematics Programme Leader, taught Critical Thinking in Secondary Education on the MA in Education Course, a PGCE Secondary Link Tutor, a Programme Leader for Maths Subject Knowledge Enhancement Course and developed a very successful Schools Direct Accelerated PGCE course for Mathematics and Physics. 

Research interests

Catherine has a specific interest and expertise in subject and curriculum knowledge, especially that which is required to train as a secondary Maths teacher. She also has a keen interest in Maths Mastery and how to use manipulatives within the key stage three classroom. She is often consulted by external organisations and professionals about the design of a  Mathematics subject knowledge enhancement course.

Catherine teaches a variety of modules across different courses with Secondary Education here at Leeds Trinity University. She teaches:

 

  • PGCE Secondary Mathematics where she is the Module Leader

  • Module Leader for the MA in Education: PG Cert

  • Programme Leader for the Maths Subject Knowledge Enhancement Course

  • Professional studies as the PGCE programme co-ordinator
