Biography

Following training as a Chartered Accountant, Andy became a Partner and Director of a Leeds based Financial Management and Accountancy Company, joining the academic staff at Leeds Trinity in 2005. Currently Andy teaches on all Business programmes at undergraduate and post graduate levels, acting as Programme leader for BA (Hons) Accounting and Business and as module leader for Financial Management, Business Law, Financial and Management Accounting and new specialist modules in Taxation and Audit.
 
Andy is External Examiner in PG Business at the Universities of Sheffield Hallam and Gloucester and Moderator for IFA professional examinations in IFRS. Research interests include; Economics and Financial Literacy, Enterprise Education and SME Growth and Development. A member of the Higher Education Teaching and Learning Association, Andy also works occasionally for Leeds Trinity University ICE as an MA dissertation supervisor.
 
Outside of work, Andy is a Trustee and Board member of several local charities and charitable trusts, as well as chair of the Finance committee of a local Academy chain. A Justice of the Peace since 1996 and member of the Lord Chancellor's Advisory Committee for nine years, Andy remains active in providing training for restorative justice practitioners and advisors. He is a member of the Leeds City Council Financial Inclusion Team and continues to work as a volunteer for CAB and MIC.
 
A keen Opera fan, Star Trek devotee, Rotarian and member of St Peter's Church in Harrogate.

Research interests

Current: The concept of Financial Literacy and the role of Economic Awareness in notions of participation and citizenship (ECER paper September 2014). Convener of European Research colloquium (meeting August 2015) with support from Council of Europe.

Current: Leadership and Growth in SMEs - On-going work with Leeds Local Enterprise Partnership/SEF to develop rapid growth programmes and strategic space initiatives for SMEs and Business incubation. Research into drivers of growth, leadership development and organisational change.

2009 - 2013: Constructivism in Education – development of research base for use by post graduate teaching students (within subject) for ‘M’ level module of PGCert.

2007-2011; Enterprise Education and Work Related Learning in schools – continuing work with national Enterprise bodies (NEEN, YE) to research and develop delivery and assessment strategies for Enterprise Education and WRL in schools.
