DescriptionSHE was bullied at school because of her Anglo-Egyptian origins and now Elizabeth Nassem is aiming to help victims.

And the University of Huddersfield student, who is studying for a doctorate in education, has spoken out as part of National Anti-Bullying Week.

Elizabeth experienced bullying including name calling while at primary school. But it got much worse while at secondary school – she was pushed in bins by others and picked on because she was in the top set in some subjects.

Her heritage was also used against her by her bullies, as Elizabeth’s mother comes from Hemsworth in Pontefract and her dad is from Cairo in Egypt.

She said: “We were the only Egyptian people in the area, but we lived as English people, we didn’t have any Egyptian traditions but they (the bullies) saw something that looked different.”

Her study comes as new research shows a significant number of children and young people are being bullied on the journey to and from school.
